What is causing my sohulder pain?
Most of us have been in this situation where we have been going strong with our new fitness routine but then this random pain is starting to keep us from maintaining our consistency. So what is the best most efficient way to eliminate this annoying pain?
Some of you will be surprised to hear that the answer is not to go to your physician. If this is the path you choose to go down they will probably tell you that it is an overuse injury, to take a few weeks rest, and if it doesn’t get better you might need some type of imaging. However there are two major issues with this “diagnosis”
With that said, if you experience an incident while working out and you felt or heard a pop that was followed by weakness in your arm and you can no longer lift your arm over your head; you may want to consult a physician. This feeling of weakness that is accompanied by a “pop” may be an indicator of something more serious.
The body is all just a balance of what muscles you are using for stability. Therefore if you are using the wrong muscles to stabilize your shoulder blade during movements you end up placing your shoulder blade in a non optimal position. When this occurs it will place increased stress on smaller structures in the shoulder causing pain and further change the way your body is moving. This is why your shoulder still hurts even after taking a period of rest from the irritating activity.

- Complete rest followed by returning to normal activity may not eliminate the issue
- Imaging does not always provide the most clear reliable “diagnosis”
